Hovedmenu

In the Section for Art History we study visual art and visual culture with an emphasis on analysis, theory and history. From Antiquity to the present we cover painting, architecture, sculpture and design as well as video, photography, installations and digital art. We address basic problems like ”What constitutes art?” as well as the concrete  role of art and visuality in everyday culture, and we stress the integration of theory and analysis with the practical and creative dimensions of the discipline. Our teaching aims at the development of knowledge and skills relevant for both traditional and new job opportunities for the candidates.

The Section for Art History offers an undergraduate and a graduate program in Art History, a supplementary program in Museology and in Visual Culture, and a program in Art and Design for high school teachers
